The Way To Happiness Course introduces the Student to a Moral Code,
based on common sense. A moral code is a series of agreements to which
a person consents or agrees to, so that the survival of a group is guaranteed.
For instance, do not steal, treat others as you would want them to treat you,
do not be promiscuous - these are basic guidelines that, if practiced in life,
would help one get along better with others and avoid pain and upset.
“Happiness lies in engaging in worthwhile activities. One can
feel at times like a spinning leave, blown along a dirty street. One
can feel like a grain of sand stuck in one place.”
“But nobody had said, that life was a calm and orderly thing, it isn’t.
One isn’t a tattered leaf nor a grain of sand: one can, to a greater
or lesser degree, draw his roadmap and follow it.”
“One can feel, that things are such now, that it is much too late,
to do anything. That ones past road is so messed up, that there is
no chance of drawing a future road, that will be any different:
there is always a point on the road, when one can map a new
one - and try to follow it. There is no person alive, who cannot
make a new beginning”.
L.Ron Hubbard
The Way To Happiness Course gives a student a common sense moral
code, which can be used to make a new start in life - a life not only free from
drugs, but one, in which real happiness and joy are possible.
8. Final Review/Discharge Planning
and Aftercare/Follow -Up Services
Planning for the student’s discharge and return to society as a productive
member of that group, is done from the time the student arrives at the pro-
gram. The intention of a staff is, to assist the student to complete each step
of his or her program, so that their goals are achieved. Once the student has
completed all steps of the program, a full review is done by the Case Super-
visor to verify, that every step was thoroughly done, and all matters of
concern have been addressed. The student is then extensively interviewed,
to determine any potential difficulties and situations, that they will have to
face, as they move forward with their life. From this interview and assess-
ment, a program is worked out with the student, to address these specific
situations. The student may take additional courses or study additional
information pertinent to his or her survival, such as how to better manage
finances, how to set and attain goals, how to handle marriage or children
more successfully etc. The student then works out with a staff member
the exact steps for his or her final discharge plan, so that a workable
road map can be followed, on his or her journey to recovery.
Once the person is completed with her program and goes on with the
business of living her life, she may run into situations, which she may not be
able to easily handle, or which create a great deal of upset and turmoil. The
Graduate may also feel, that more life skills are needed to effectively
address various areas of his or her life and interpersonal relations. For this
reason, we provide an Aftercare Program, wherein the Graduate can come
back to Narconon as needed, to address these difficulties, or as best
determined by a follow-up Counselor. Through thorough interviewing, the
student and the staff member identify any problem areas, and an individu-
alized program is then done, to address those trouble spots.
By providing enough Aftercare as needed, a student is assisted
in gaining increased control over his environment and life.
